A Brief Note On Audiovisual Education And The World Of...

INRODUCTION: Audiovisual education has developed rapidly since the 1920’s by drawing on new technologies of communication. John Amos Comenius (1592–1670), a Bohemian educator, was one of the first to propose a systematic method of audiovisual education. (Encyclopedia Britannica) John Amos Comenius prepared a book known as orbit sensulium pictus (the world of sense objects)which contained about 150 pictures on aspects of everyday life. The book is considered to be the first illustrated textbook for children education. This book gained wide publicity and was used in childhood education centers all over the world. (Selvi.D, M. ,2007 Sabarish-P. ,2014) In past educational system, technologies were not vast. In early 1920’s, people were not fully aware of how to make teaching learning environment successful. Even in today’s world, there are many technologies or few teaching aids that have been introduced but teacher rarely use them in educational system. Singh (2005) also supported this idea by saying, Often teachers know the value of certain visual aids, but they fail to utilize them to the fullest because they do not take time to plan their use (p.177).† Audio-visual aid is one of the technology or a tool that can play a part of instructional tool for ESL learners’ educational system.
